The short version
Measurement and advertising cookies are optional. You are asked when you first arrive, declining is one click, and the site works the same either way. Necessary cookies remember your answer, including a refusal.
Without a yes, no measurement or advertising code loads and nothing here follows you to other sites. Staff also use a necessary cookie to stay signed in to the admin pages; visitors never receive it.
What is set today
| Name | Set when | What it does | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
| Staff sign in session | Only when a member of our staff signs in | Keeps staff signed in to the admin pages. Visitors and subscribers never receive it. | Until they sign out, or 30 days |
| kp_consent, kp_consent_id | When you answer the cookie question | Remember your answer so you are not asked on every page, with a random reference that lets us show a choice was recorded. They say nothing about who you are. | 12 months |
| _ga and cookies beginning _ga_ | Only if you agree to measurement | Set by Google Analytics to tell one visit from another, so visits can be counted. | Up to 2 years |
| _fbp, _fbc | Only if you agree to advertising | Set by the Meta pixel so Facebook and Instagram can recognise a visit that came from one of our ads. | 3 months |
The first two rows are strictly necessary in the legal sense: one is only for staff, and the other exists only to honour your own answer. Neither is used to build a profile of you.
After you agree, local browser storage named kp_measurement_sent remembers up to 200 anonymous purchase-measurement references, so refreshing a receipt does not count the same purchase again. It stays until you clear your browser storage. This is used only for the measurement or advertising category you accepted.
The categories
Each category is off until you turn it on, nothing is ticked for you, and refusing is exactly as easy as accepting.
- Strictly necessary (always on, cannot be refused). Remembers this choice, and keeps our own staff signed in to the admin pages. Visitors never receive the staff cookie.
- Measurement (in use, only with your agreement). Google Analytics measures visits, plan choices, checkout starts and confirmed purchases. It sets its own cookies and sends your IP address and the pages you open to Google.
- Advertising (in use, only with your agreement). The Meta pixel measures visits, plan choices, checkout starts and confirmed purchases so we can tell which Facebook and Instagram ads work. It follows you across other sites in order to do it.
Google Analytics is provided by Google Ireland Limited. The Meta pixel is provided by Meta Platforms Ireland Limited. Data they receive can be processed in the United States, under the safeguards the privacy policy describes.
Changing your mind
You can change your answer at any time, here or from the link at the foot of every page. Turning something off removes its cookies and reloads the page without it.
You can also clear cookies in your browser at any time, which forgets the answer and means you are asked again.
Marketing email is a separate question
Nothing on this page has anything to do with the newsletter. Those emails go only to people who ticked the optional box when they subscribed, never to anyone else, and one click in any of them stops them permanently.
